Welcome Services

Our Welcome Service members are the public face of volunteering at Ipswich Hospital.

They meet patients and visitors in the main entrance areas and are often the first representative of the trust that our visitors will speak to - a good first impression is essential! They provide a warm welcome, advice on checking in (where necessary), directions and wayfinding services and can even push wheelchairs.

Qualities you’ll need:

  • friendly;
  • a desire to help others; and
  • being confident in talking to new people.

Joyce has been volunteering at Ipswich Hospital since 1999.

She has volunteered all over the hospital but has settled at the Outpatients entrance welcoming patients.
She got involved after spotting an advertisement back in 1999. She said: ‘‘It’s fantastic to meet new people every day, so many different people I would normally have met.
“This is a social occasion too – it’s a part of my week that I really look forward to and there is nothing better than doing it with my friends."
“The hospital is part of the community, it means so much too so many and we volunteers are helping to be a part of that.’’
