Want to apply?

The support provided by our volunteers is invaluable in improving the hospital experience for patients, carers and our staff. Volunteering is a two-way process, it should be mutually beneficial to both you and us, as a hospital.

Contained on these pages of our website are details of the roles we are currently recruiting to, information on those roles (role description forms) and the application pack. If you are interested in a role which isn’t listed please keep checking the list of roles we are currently recruiting to as it will be updated regularly.

When applying, please consider how you best fit the role you are applying for and don’t forget to add the role reference number to your application form – it seems like a small detail but will make a big difference. The application form can be completed electronically or by hand and then emailed (please note we take no responsibility for email security) or posted once completed – please ensure you have filled all fields! If you submit your application by email we will ask you to sign it in person when we meet you.

Before you go any further there are a few things you should be aware of:

  • There is a minimum age restriction of 16 years of age for volunteer roles in a non-clinical environment and 17 years of age in a clinical environment.
  • We require a regular, minimum commitment of six months.
  • You must have the right to work in the UK.
  • You will need to be flexible about your placement in times of increased pressures.
  • The hospital values which we all work to. Find out more about Our Values here.
  • We have annual mandatory training updates which all volunteers are required to complete.
  • You will be required to complete the application process, please see the 'Joining Us as a Volunteer' document at the bottom of this page for details.

In return for your time and commitment we can offer you:

  • A chance to broaden your horizons.
  • The prospect of meeting new people and making new friends.
  • Experience of daily life in a hospital environment – great if you are contemplating a career in healthcare.
  • Annual training.
  • Confidence building, rewarding experiences.
  • The opportunity to serve your community.
  • Annual Conference and Christmas Celebration events.
