The Stour Centre works within a unique two-centre cancer network called the Essex and East Suffolk Cancer Network (EESCN), which serves a population of almost 2 million. This centre in Ipswich will treat women who live as far south as Chelmsford and as far north as the Suffolk/Norfolk border and the centre in Southend will treat women from across Essex down to as far south as north London.

Although patients will travel to their local centre for surgery, the network exists to oversee the very best care and brings together expertise from across a large region to constantly improve the experience patients and families have.

Formed in 2007, the EESCN brought together two previous cancer networks - Mid Anglia and South Essex. The idea for this unique two-centre approach was to not change the hospitals women already go to for surgery but to pool the expertise and experiences from a larger team of dedicated healthcare and support professionals. This process has meant the sharing of ideas and good practise, which ultimately make the patient journey easier.
