The Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust is a National Health Service Trust providing hospital-based health care to more than 356,000 people who live in and around Ipswich and east Suffolk. It is a single-site medium size acute hospital, renowned for providing a high standard of specialist healthcare services to the residents of Ipswich and East Suffolk, and some specialties such as spinal surgery and cancer surgery to a wider population, as well as outreach services in a number of clinical specialties.

Improving the Patient and Carer Experience
Ipswich Hospital has developed a Patient and Carer Experience Strategy which sets out how the hospital intends to improve the patient experience and builds on existing as well as new initiatives and policies – bringing them all together into one ‘umbrella’ framework.
The Patient and Carer Experience Group
This group is led by the Director of Nursing and Quality, and is a new way of working – bringing hospital staff (matrons, ward clerks, healthcare assistants, nurses etc) and patient representatives together on an equal footing to oversee how we improve the whole experience for patients and carers.

Cancer Services User Group
The Cancer Services User Group meets for two hours once a month and includes service users, family carers and staff from St Elizabeth Hospice.
Cardiology User Group
The Cardiology User Group meets monthly on a Monday evening. Membership includes those who have used Cardiology services at the hospital, representatives from related voluntary organisations and senior hospital staff. Family carers of patients who have used the services are also very welcome.
Diabetes User Group
The east Suffolk Diabetes User Group covers the hospital and services in the community across east Suffolk. It is a joint group with staff attending from both the hospital and NHS Suffolk. The lead for the group are a diabetes specialist nurse for the hospital and diabetes network manager for NHS Suffolk.

Eye Clinic User Group

Hearing Services User Group
The group’s membership includes hearing aid users, carers, representatives from voluntary deaf and hard of hearing groups and members of the social care sensory team. The Trust lead for the group is head of hearing services.
Hotel Services User Group
This group looks at ‘the patient environment’ at the hospital and this covers a number of areas including food, cleaning, laundry, car parks, signs and buildings.
The Ipswich Hospital User Group
The Ipswich Hospital User Group (IHUG) meets every six weeks and involves a representative from every user group, a worker from Suffolk Family Carers senior Trust staff and Trust Board members.
Ipswich Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Patient Panel
The Ipswich IBD Patient Panel is made up of a group of people with IBD (principally Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis) who use the same hospital services, and who believe that by talking to and working with their IBD NHS professionals they bring a patient perspective which will help improve services.
Joint Action in Musculoskeletal Services User Group
The group is made up of users of Rheumatology services, the metabolic bone service and the Fractures and Orthopaedic department. The group focuses on improving the experience of patients and out-patients in these areas of the hospital.
Maternity Services User Group
This group has been in existence at the hospital for a number of years and includes mothers who have recently had babies at the hospital, community health professionals and hospital staff. The Trust lead for the group is the service manager for obstetrics and gynaecology.
Older Peoples User Group
The Older People's User Group is a jointly run group (Ipswich Hospital and NHS Suffolk) and consists of people who use or have used hospital and/or community services, family carers of older people plus representatives from local voluntary organisations including Age Concern, The Alzheimers Society and the Parkinson's Disease Society. The Trust lead for the group is the head matron for Older People's Services.
Pain Management Group
The Pain Management User Group looks at all aspects of pain management care.
Stroke User Group
The group is made up of stroke survivors, their family/carers and representatives from the Stroke Association. The Trust lead for the group is the head matron for Stroke Services.
