Welcome to Ipswich Hospital
Our Passion, Your Care
Other Respiratory Services

We have inpatient beds on Kirton Ward where we also have a four-bed respiratory high dependency area known as ARCU (Acute Respiratory Care Unit). This was one of the first such units in the country and provides extra help with breathing and oxygen when other treatments aren’t sufficient.

We have two bronchoscopy lists a week where we are able to use fibre-optic telescopes to look into people's lungs to obtain samples for analysis.

We provide a weekly clinic to assess, diagnose and treat pleural effusions (fluid around the lungs) on a day case basis to prevent the need for hospital admission.

Our specialist respiratory nurse services include assessment and help for patients with asthma, provision of Omalizumab injections for asthma, TB screening and BCG vaccination as well as home non-invasive ventilation clinic / advice.
