Conditions Treated

We have extensive experience in assessing and treating a wide range of pulmonary diseases including:

  • pneumonia and other lung infections;
  • COPD (emphysema and chronic obstructive bronchitis);
  • asthma (including Omalizumab therapy);
  • bronchiectasis;
  • lung cancer;
  • TB;
  • sarcoidosis;
  • pulmonary fibrosis and inflammatory lungs disease;
  • asbestos related lung diseases;
  • diseases of the pleura (lining of the lungs);
  • pulmonary emboli (blood clots in the lungs); and
  • other rarer lung diseases.

In particular we have a long-established service for the assessment and treatment of sleep apnoea and we also provide a service to assess and treat respiratory failure with home non-invasive ventilation, usually without the need to be referred elsewhere.

Our specialist respiratory nurse runs services for the screening and treatment of TB as well as giving BCG vaccination where indicated. We offer a service for private BCG vaccination to travellers and others as needed.

We work closely with the community respiratory services who support our patients with COPD in their own homes and provide where necessary home oxygen therapy. We run joint services with colleagues in Neurology and Rheumatology.

We do not provide outpatient services for cystic fibrosis.This service is provided at Papworth Hospital.
