New patient relaxation chairA new patient relaxation chair and specialist sensory equipment have been unveiled at the Ipswich Hospital’s Radiotherapy Department in memory of late patient Ivan Garnham.

The reclining chair allows patients to relax when they come in for treatment. New mood lights, lamps and artwork have been added to the room to create a relaxing environment. Patients receiving acupuncture can benefit from the relaxing atmosphere during their treatment. Those coming in for radiotherapy or chemotherapy meanwhile have access to the room after their treatment.

The new equipment was bought after donations from the Ipswich Head & Neck Cancer Support Group and friends and family of Ivan Garnham, a patient who died last year.

Pat Whitman, from the support group, said: “We found the perfect chair for patients.” Amanda Ford, Macmillan support and information radiographer, said: “Our wish is to make the patient experience as relaxing and enjoyable as possible during some very difficult personal times.”
