Clinical Oncologist

Clinical oncologists are doctors who are trained in all aspects of the non-surgical management of cancers.

This means that we are the doctors responsible for the patient’s radiotherapy treatment.

Our key roles include:

  • assessing the suitability of radiotherapy (as opposed to other treatments) for your cancer;
  • determining what needs to be treated, often with the aid of advanced computerised imaging techniques;
  • approving the final treatment plan, or course of radiotherapy treatment;
  • giving medical support and advice during your radiotherapy treatment; and
  • providing subsequent follow-up after treatment, sometimes with the aid of clinical colleagues.

We work very much in teams, with our physics and radiography staff, to ensure that the patient receives the best possible radiotherapy treatment.
