Getting to your placement

It is called the Route 66 and takes about fifteen minutes. You can access the timetable on the web site below. There is also a taxi rank outside the station. Ipswich Hospital is situated on Heath Road, which is the main A12 Inner Ring Road to Felixstowe.

If travelling by car please use the Pearson Road car park for the duration of your stay; this is situated around the back of the hospital. Press the button at the barrier to obtain a ticket then, before leaving, go to the South Wards entrance and pay £1.00. This will enable you to exit. Please contact the department if you have any queries.

Therapists getting off to a great start

The Occupational Therapy practice educators have won an award for their work teaching trainees of the profession. The accolade – from the Suffolk County Workforce Group – said the team "promotes excellent working relationships to support and enhance learning" and "helps students identify and optimise their preferred learning methods".

Our hospital has approximately 35 OT students every year, largely from the University of East Anglia and the University of Essex. Placements vary from one month to three months and each student is assigned a practice educator throughout their placement for support.

Sheree Baker was a student at our hospital who went on to get a permanent job and is now a practice educator. She said: "Placements are a big part of a student's learning so we need to get it right. It's a big priority for us to support each of them personally and it also helps us develop our own skills."

Student Jamila Francis-Sladden said: "I have really enjoyed meeting with patients and their families so early on in my induction. The support from my practice educator has been really helpful."
