Ipswich Hospital’s Research team has been encouraging youngsters to think about #WhyWeDoResearch with a competition to design a selfie board.

The winning designs by local young people feature Harry Potter and friends, unicorns and fairies & flowers and stars.

The selfie board competition was the idea of children’s research nurse Jon Hassler-Hurst and Jon joined the youngsters and their parents for a prize-giving on the children’s unit.

He said: “The team thought that it would be a good idea to enable people to spread the word about children and young people’s research using the selfie culture; this would be a modern, cost effective, efficient way and one that could engage people of all ages. We wanted to include those that haven't yet taken part in research promote the fact that children can and do take part in research.”

The boards stand 2 metres tall and are now on display in the hospital. Jon said: “It is hoped it will increase the number of enquiries to the research teams and ultimately increase the number of people taking part in research.”
