Physios Ali and Charlie receive Stars of Suffolk honour
10 November 2017

Charlie Martin (left) and Ali AngellCharlie Martin and Ali Angell won the Suffolk Hospital/Ambulance Hero of the Year award for helping to support round-the-clock care of a baby with respiratory problems, helping her survive against the odds.

They cared for baby Alyssa Mullin, who has spinal muscular atrophy and required complex respiratory treatment every four hours over five days and then further care for two-and-a-half weeks.

Ali and Charlie were presented on stage with their awards before being surprised with flowers and champagne by Alyssa's mother, Lucy, who was accompanied by Alyssa and her son, Asa.

All four nominations for this particular award came from our hospital.

Ali Brett was nominated for playing a crucial role in projects at our hospital, including the Daisy Room - a dedicated space where those who have experienced a loss in pregnancy can receive support.

Also nominated was Anna Kruczek who went that extra mile to arrange for two patients nearing the end of their lives to fulfil their wishes of dying at home.

Becky May was our final nominee and she was selected for driving projects to refurbish four of our wards to the highest dementia-friendly standards.
A huge congratulations to our winners and all our nominees.
