New home for Hadleigh mobile breast screening
23 August 2016

Women attending breast screening appointments in Hadleigh will benefit from greater convenience and easier parking when our mobile unit moves to a new home next month.

From September, the unit will relocate to the Morrison’s supermarket car park in Calais Street from its previous base outside Hadleigh Health Centre. The move has been designed to make it easier for both those attending for screening and health centre patients to find a convenient parking space.

Women who are due to be screened will be receiving appointment letters from Ipswich Hospital soon, which includes details of the new location.

Judith Berrill, superintendent radiographer at Ipswich Hospital, said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Hadleigh Health Centre and Babergh District Council for the support they have given us during the past 27 years while the unit has been parking outside.

“We also really appreciate the help we have received from Morrison’s in setting up the new site, and hope all of the women attending for screening will find it convenient.

“We spend about eight weeks a year in Hadleigh, and during that time see around 50 women a day. The appointment is very quick and only takes 10 to 15 minutes, so offering people who live or work outside of Ipswich the chance to attend the mobile unit instead of the main hospital for screening really does save them time.”

Ipswich Hospital offers a mobile breast screening service in Felixstowe, Leiston, Framlingham, Woodbridge, Stowmarket and Eye, as well as from the main hospital site on Heath Road. Women are sent an appointment close to where they live, but can phone the hospital to change locations if it is not convenient.

Screening is routinely offered to women aged between 50 and 70, who are invited to attend once every three years. Anyone who is aged over 70 and would like an appointment should call 01473 703344.
