Blossom Appeal smashes £50,000 mark
26 March 2018

An appeal to build a new breast care centre at our hospital has hit a milestone after reaching the £50,000 mark.

The Blossom Appeal aims to raise £2.5m towards a new state-of-the-art facility which will bring all breast services under one roof, so that patients can be imaged, biopsied and see their consultant in one appointment. Currently, patients have to visit three different locations during their care, which means they need to get dressed and undressed several times.

Just four months after its launch, the appeal has reached the £50,000 mark after supporters raised money by holding dances and coffee mornings, while one couple asked for donations instead of presents to mark their golden wedding anniversary.

The Ipswich Hospital Charity is now urging even more people to support the appeal by getting behind a series of fundraising events planned for the coming months – including a special masquerade ball taking place in June.

“The new breast care centre will make a huge difference to thousands of patients each year, so we are delighted that the Blossom Appeal has already reached this important milestone,” said Mandy Jordan, head of charity and fundraising.

“We would like to thank everyone who has supported us so far and encourage even more people to get involved. We’ve got a host of exciting events taking place over the next few months, including our glamourous masquerade ball, sponsored walks and skydives, so please do think about joining in to help raise vital funds for your local hospital.”

The masquerade ball takes place at Kersey Mill from 7pm on Friday 22 June, and will include a drinks reception, three course meal with wine and live music from J.S and The Lockerbillies, who have previously played at Glastonbury. Tickets are priced at £50 per person.

Other events planned over the coming months include a Super Hero Zip Line which starts at the top of the hospital’s iconic maternity building, a sponsored ‘Walk for Wards’, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge and a skydive.

Anyone who would like to find out more about the ball or donate to the fundraising appeal can call the Ipswich Hospital Charity on 01473 702929 or visit the special appeal page to donate online www.ipswichhospitalcharity.co.uk/blossom
