Routine Antenatal Care

This schedule shows when you should be seen by your midwife and what will happen at each appointment. Please note that the schedule is only a guide and your care will be tailored to your needs. If you have any difficulties arranging a scheduled antenatal appointment with your GP surgery, please leave a message for your community midwife who can arrange to see you.

Booking appointment to discuss your choices regarding screening tests, antenatal care and place of delivery.
Blood and urine tests will be taken.
Advice given regarding diet (including vitamin D and folic acid supplements), lifestyle and smoking cessation.
11–13 weeks
Sonographer
Hospital
Dating scan and combined screening blood test for Down’s syndrome.
14–16 weeks

GP Surgery/Children’s Centre
Antenatal check.
Further blood test if required.
18–20 weeks

Mid-trimester scan.
23–25 weeks

Antenatal check.
Mat B1 form.
Information about breastfeeding.
28 weeks

Antenatal check.
Anti-D (if required).
Blood tests.
MRSA swabs (if required).
Glucose tolerance test if indicated.
Book antenatal classes/breastfeeding workshop or give written information.
31 weeks

Antenatal check.

Discussion of management of prolonged pregnancy and membrane sweeps.

Offer induction of labour 10–12 days past EDD.
