Antenatal Screening
Screening tests for you and your baby

This section of the website aims to give you some information about the screening tests that are available to you and your baby.

Ideally, you will have received the national information leaflet 'Screening tests for you and your baby' prior to your first appointment with a midwife. However, if this is not the case, you will be given the leaflet at your first appointment.

What is screening?

Screening is a process of identifying apparently healthy people who may be at increased risk of a disease or condition. They can then be offered information, further tests and appropriate treatment to reduce their risk and/or any complications arising from the disease or condition.

Public Health England have an online screening timeline advising of  the tests that take place throughout the different stages of your pregnancy and the new born tests available for babies.
