Settling in

We understand how important it is for the child and the parent to have peace of mind when the child is left in a new environment. Our aim is for the child and parent to find the nursery a welcoming place and settle in quickly and easily. To achieve this we have an effective settling in policy at the Nursery.

Before a child starts we provide the family with an information pack which has written information about the nursery. They are also offered a visit to the setting to be shown around to view the different rooms and meet the staff.

Once a parent has registered their child, we allocate a 'key person' to that child. A key person is a special person who is dedicated to look after the child and the family during the settling-in process and beyond. The key person will contact the family to arrange a visit to the nursery to discuss the child’s routine etc. Through conversations with the family we aim to find out the child’s interests and usual care routine. After this initial visit parents are offered the opportunity to come to ‘stay and play’ sessions with their child to help familiarise their child with the setting and will also be given the opportunity to leave their child for an hour to see how the child gets on, on their own.
