Provision of compression for lymphoedema patients
10 July 2015

Dear GP,

The Lymphoedema Service at Ipswich Hospital currently accepts referrals from all GPs across the Ipswich and East Suffolk Clinical Commissioning Group. It is recognised that lymphoedema and chronic oedema are lifelong conditions that require careful management in a partnership with patient, GP and specialist therapist, who will make a specific request for appropriate compression to manage the patient's lymphoedema.

All new patients referred to and seen by the Lymphoedema Service at Ipswich Hospital will receive their first set of standard hosiery from the stocks available, or ordered if made to measure. Thereafter, all replacement compression devices for patients who continue to visit the Lymphoedema Service will need to be provided via FP10 through their GP. All garments not on the list of those available via prescription will continue to be provided by the Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust.

Our Orthotics and Lymphoedema teams will not be able to issue replacement garments direct to patients, and will advise patients to contact their GP.

If you have any queries in respect of the Lymphoedema Service, or how to order prescription garments from a pharmacy, please contact the team on 01473 704033.

Yours sincerely,

Jane Micheal
