Improving the Patient Experience

Ipswich Hospital has developed a Patient Experience Strategy which sets out how the hospital intends to improve the patient experience and builds on existing as well as new initiatives and policies – bringing them all together into one ‘umbrella’ framework.

Our key principles

  • All staff have a responsibility for creating an environment where patients receive a good patient experience.
  • All patients and visitors should feel welcomed, informed and treated with dignity and respect throughout their patient journey.
  • The environment is clean, welcoming and well furnished.
  • Patients feel safe and informed about infection control measures.
  • Patients receive excellent fundamental care including good food and adequate help with basic personal care.
  • Patients and the public are included in the planning and evaluation of service provision and feedback that they provide (via user groups, surveys and the Patient Advice and Liaison Service) is utilised appropriately.
  • Information is available for patients and carers throughout their journey in appropriate formats, and support to understand that information is made available.
  • There is adequate access to spiritual, pastoral and religious support.
  • Family members and carers needs are considered and access to support is available.
  • Bereaved family and carers have access to support.
  • Patients and family/carers receive high quality ‘end of life’ care.
  • Equality and diversity are respected at all times.

The hospital has also established the Patient Experience Group to oversee the implementation of the Strategy and improvements to the patient and carer experience.
