Becoming a Trust Member

We are proud of our award-winning hospital but it could be even better with your help. We want to follow in the footsteps of other successful hospitals and become an NHS foundation trust. You can play an important part by becoming a member (it is free).

There are already almost 6,000 local people signed up as members of our hospital and you can join them. As a member, you will not only forge a link with our hospital to make sure we hear your views, but you also qualify for NHS Discounts. This means you can register with www.nhsdiscounts.com to make savings on shopping, cars and motoring, days out and more.

A foundation trust puts influence where it should be – in the hands of the people it serves. Being a foundation trust would free us from central government control, allowing us to determine locally how best to spend our money. We would be able to improve and shape our services with the help of our members to meet the specific needs of those who use our hospital.

Decisions are made locally as patients, staff and members of the public elect people to serve on a Council of Governors. The hospital governors represent the views of the public to the hospital management.

Foundation trusts are not about breaking away from the NHS. In fact, they are about building on the best. Members can be involved as much or as little as they like, from simply receiving newsletters to becoming active in forums / fundraising and volunteering. Anyone who is over 16 years old and lives in Suffolk, Colchester or Tendring is invited to become a member.

If you would like to become a member, please contact us on 01473 702120, or email your name and postal address to membership@ipswichhospital.nhs.uk and we will send you an application pack.
