Information for Visitors

Making visiting times at Ipswich Hospital better for everyone.

Staff at work on our busy Emergency Admissions Unit.

We aim to be as flexible as possible within the constraints of a working hospital. This information explains what you can expect from us during your visit, and what we would like from you in return.

General visiting hours: 11am – 8pm
Please note that on some wards the general visiting hours are different:

  • Visiting times on the Constable Suite (Haughley and Grundisburgh wards) are 10.30am – 3.30pm. This area cares for people with complex needs and many of the patients have a dementia or delirium (acute confusion). We have taken the decision to reduce the noise and activity on the ward late afternoon and evening to help patients to remain calm and prevent agitation, restlessness and confusion (‘sundowning’).
  • Visiting hours on the children’s wards start at 2pm, after ward rounds and protected lunchtime, and end at 7pm so that the little ones can settle down to sleep.

Open visiting
Family carers
are welcome on our wards outside of general visiting times. The term family carer includes the parents or significant adults of children, partners of new mums and those with informal (unpaid) caring responsibilities for someone.
