Mr Abu-Own MBChB, PhD, FRCS (Gen & Vasc Surg) is a consultant in General and Vascular Surgery at Ipswich Hospital and Colchester University Hospital. He trained in general and vascular surgery in the UK and his training included a three year period in research at University College London (PhD). Mr Abu-Own has special research interest in venous disease, including varicose veins and venous thromboembolism (VTE). The scope of his clinical practice includes elective and emergency vascular surgery: venous (varicose veins, DVT and leg ulcers), arterial (peripheral arterial disease, aneurysms and carotid disease) and elective general surgery: hernia surgery, laproscopic cholecystectomy, lumps & bumps.

Ahmed N Assar, MD FRCS is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust. Mr Assar received his medical degree from Cairo University Medical School in 1995. He trained in General and Vascular Surgery at Cairo University Hospitals where he was awarded the MSc and MD degrees in Surgery. He then moved to the UK where he trained in Vascular Surgery at St Mary's Hospital in London & Nottingham University Hospitals and was a registrar in General and Vascular Surgery in East Anglia rotating between hospitals in the region. He travelled to the United States and worked for one year as a Vascular Research Fellow in Dr Christopher Zarins' Vascular Laboratory at Stanford. After finishing his training and obtaining the CCT in General & Vascular surgery in the UK, he travelled to New Zealand and worked as a Clinical Fellow in Vascular, Endovascular & Transplant Surgery at Christchurch Hospital. He was then appointed Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Ipswich Hospital in 2013.

Profile:

Miss Vriens was trained as a General, Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon in the Netherlands under Professor C Zeebregts. In addition, in 2015 she undertook a senior clinical fellowship vascular and Endovascular Surgery at St. George’s Hospital under Professor M. Thompson. She was appointed as a Locum Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the Fiver Rivers Vascular Network in 2016. Currently Miss Vriens works in both the Ipswich and Colchester University Hospitals. Miss Vriens is trained in both  arterial and venous surgery and has a special interest in endovascular surgery. She is also finishing her PhD in lower limb revascularisation.
