Welcome to the Eye Department
A patient having their sight tested in the Ipswich Hospital Optometry Department.

The Ipswich Hospital Eye Department provides an extensive range of ophthalmic services for both adults and children which include general eye clinic appointments, laser treatments, optometry, orthoptics, a visiting ocular prosthetic service, ophthalmic imaging and low vision refraction service.

Our multidisciplinary department includes nine consultant ophthalmologists, nursing and reception staff, and also optometrists (opticians) and orthoptists (people who specialise in ocular muscular imbalance, usually referred to as squints). In addition, ophthalmologists in training rotate to the eye department from other hospitals.

We also have an Eye Clinic liaison officer and a volunteer from the local blind society who provide information, support and advice to those with visual impairment, their families and carers.
