ENT emergencies and A&E clinics

Daytime – These clinics provide urgent medical treatment for patients following attendance in the hospital A&E Department, or by direct referral to the SHO or ENT Nurse Practitioner on-call, from the GP. Patients may have one follow-up appointment at this clinic after which they will be referred to the general ENT clinic.

Monday - Friday nighttime – Nurse Practitioners are the first point of contact for ENT emergencies during the night, taking referrals from GPs, A&E and the wards. Nurse practitioners will treat many patients with common ENT emergencies such as epistaxis (nose bleed), quinsy (tonsil abscess) and severe tonsillitis, and doctors will be second on-call.

Weekends – Ipswich and Colchester hospitals alternate to provide specialist emergency doctor services.
