The Diabetes Centre is a bungalow style building in the corner of a staff car park, diagonally opposite the maternity block. View hospital map.

The Ipswich Hospital Diabetes and Endocrine Centre offers specialist care in both diabetes and endocrinology. It was the first specialist centre built in the UK in 1985, the building and the facilities within have all been developed by the generous financial support from people with diabetes raising money for the centre.

Endocrinology clinics take place every Tuesday, the specialist team offers a comprehensive service dealing with thyroid, pituitary, bone and other endocrine disorders. The team includes endocrinologists and a specialist endocrine nurse – who covers the service for the rest of the week.

Diabetes service takes place on all other days of the week. The Specialist Diabetes team includes diabetologists, specialist diabetes nurses and a specialist dietitian. They offer a range of clinics covering renal disease, insulin dose adjustment, pre-conceptual, young people with diabetes, insulin pumps, complex Type 2 and others. One of our areas of expertise is delivering education to people with both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in groups, there is also a number of professional education meetings throughout the year.

The Centre is open Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm. It is not open at weekends.
