Volunteering in Chaplaincy

There are a number of ways in which people can provide voluntary support to the work of Chaplaincy at Ipswich Hospital. Some examples include:

  • assisting with administration within the department of Spiritual and Pastoral Care;
  • becoming a visitor (following suitable referencing, training and selection);
  • supporting the chaplains in sustaining the sacramental needs of patients at weekends and at other times on request;
  • collecting people from and returning people to wards on Sunday (or at other times) to allow them to attend the weekly Chapel Service or other events facilitated by the Chaplaincy team;
  • preparing the Chapel for weekly services and other special events throughout the year; and
  • arranging flowers in the Chapel.

All volunteers are subject to an interview with Voluntary Services after which two references will taken and a DBS check applied for prior to placement within the Chaplaincy Team.

If you have any suggestions about ways in which volunteers might support the work of Spiritual Care at Ipswich Hospital, we would love to hear from you!
