Who are chaplains here for?

Chaplains provide spiritual and pastoral support for patients and the family, friends and carers of patients throughout Ipswich Hospital, as well as staff. Chaplains aim to provide an inclusive service for people of all faiths, and of no faith, recognizing each person as an individual and respecting their values, age, gender, disability, culture and sexual orientation.

What do chaplains do?

Chaplains routinely visit wards and departments, supporting patients, their families, carers and staff, by providing:

  • pastoral and spiritual support;
  • a ‘listening ear’;
  • a resource of advice and support to meet specific religious requests when required;
  • an educational resource to staff in a variety of areas; and
  • a 24-hour, 365 day urgent response to support patients and staff.

There is usually a chaplain on call throughout a 24-hour period each day of the year and the on-call chaplain can be contacted via the hospital switchboard (01473 712233).
