Contacting the Chaplains

The Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care team consists of Church of England, Free Church and Roman Catholic chaplains.

Chaplains are normally on-site between 8am and 4pm, although the office will not always be occupied because the team will be working around the hospital. To make an urgent referral to the Chaplaincy team at any time please dial 01473 712233 and ask the Switchboard operator to put you through to the on-call chaplain.

By email
Email chaplaincy@ipswichhospital.nhs.uk
Please provide as much information as you can to help the chaplains identify and locate you or the person you are referring.

By telephone
To make a non-urgent referral please call the Chaplaincy Office directly by dialing 01473 704100 and be prepared to leave a message. Once you are in hospital you can use the bedside telephone to dial this number and make a non-urgent referral if you wish.

Example of the Chaplaincy referral leaflet

In writing
Either write to: Department of Pastoral and Spiritual Care (N018), Ipswich Hospital, Heath Road, Ipswich, Suffolk IP4 5PD
Complete one of the referral leaflets which are located around the hospital. These can be handed to a member of staff who will arrange for a chaplain to visit you, or the person you have referred. Alternatively, they can be posted into one of the Chaplaincy Referral Boxes located at the South Entrance, Outpatients Entrance, close to the Courtyard Restaurant in the North Zone of the hospital, or in the Chapel itself.

The Chaplaincy team is supported by a number of honorary chaplains from many faith groups. Contact can be made with a faith leader of any tradition at the request of a patient in hospital. Chaplains are also involved in teaching and giving advice about the faith traditions for different staff groups.
