Director of Community Services

Alison Smith

Alison Smith has worked in the NHS for eight-and-a-half years, having previously worked in the veterinary industry, spending 16 years in Academia both as a qualified veterinary nurse and manager, running the hospitals and training veterinary surgeons at the University of Cambridge and London.

Alison’s first role in the health industry was as manager of sexual health services in Cambridgeshire – 55% of that service being run in the community.

That number increased to 100% and on the back of Alison’s success in Cambridgeshire, her team then won tenders in Suffolk, Peterborough and Luton, before managing an integrated Adult Health and Social Care integrated service in the county.

Alison then moved into the acute sector and before joining Ipswich and the East was deputy chief operations officer for Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, an acute, community integrated Trust.

Alison, a mother of three, who commutes from Cambridge, said: “Working with good people makes it a pleasure to be at Ipswich and the East.

“I can see the desire and passion to do well of every person I bump into here and that’s great.

“We have all experienced how the NHS has been there for us and, having been a patient myself, that has become a real driver for me to make a difference.”
