The Equality Act and the NHS Equality Delivery System (EDS2) which have been in operation since October 2010 and April 2012 rely upon rigorous engagement with staff on key issues such as: discrimination, harassment and having fair and transparent processes.

One way of engaging with staff, is through our Employee Reference Groups. Each of the Reference Groups has an action plan that they are delivering on to support the organisation and its staff.

Our three Employee Reference Groups are:

  • BAME Reference Group
  • LGBT Reference Group
  • Disability Reference Group

Staff are encouraged and supported to attend whichever group they feel interested in and more importantly anyone can be a member. The Reference Groups are supported by the Trust Equality and Diversity Team.

Disability Go 

The Trust has signed up to be a Disability Go Committed employer and we have committed to the following:

  • Ensure our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible
  • Communicate and promote vacancies
  • Offer an interview to disabled people
  • Anticipate and provide reasonable adjustments as required
  • Support any existing employee who acquires a disability or long-term health conditions, enabling them to stay in work

Stonewall

The Trust is a Stonewall diversity champion and will carry out a staff equality survey this year to find out what staff experiences are when it comes to equality in the Trust. An action plan will be developed from the findings. Another important group of staff supporting the Equality Diversity and Inclusion agenda Trust-wide are our Diversity Champions.
