Equality Delivery System 2 (EDS2)

Equality Diversity Inclusion portrait strip

The Equality Delivery System (EDS) was first made available to the NHS on 29 July 2011. It was formally launched by Sir David Nicholson, NHS Chief Executive, on 10 November 2011. The EDS is designed to support NHS commissioners and providers to deliver better outcomes for patients and communities, and better working environments for staff.

The EDS is a tool kit designed to help NHS organisations:

  • Meet the Public Sector Equality Duty
  • Deliver on the NHS Outcomes Framework and the NHS Constitution
  • As a public service provider, to meet the Care Quality Commission's Essential Standards of Quality and Safety.

At the heart of the EDS is a set of 18 outcomes grouped into four goals.

The goals are:

  • Better health outcomes for all
  • Improved patient access and experience
  • Empowered, engaged and included staff
  • Inclusive leadership at all levels.

What progress have we made with the Equality Delivery System?

View Ipswich Hospital’s EDS structure.

As you will see from this structure, there are a number of groups in place which help to support and progress the Equality Delivery System.

We have consulted on the 18 outcomes within the Equality Delivery System 2. Our assessments are available below:
