Maternity
Over 3, 800 babies are born in east Suffolk each year.
The Maternity Service based at Ipswich Hospital offers a choice of who leads your maternity care and where you give birth:
- A consultant obstetrician or a midwife can lead your care
- Options for birth include the Ipswich Hospital Maternity Unit, the Gilchrist Maternity at Eye or your own home.
Currently over 5% of women in east Suffolk choose to give birth at home.
The Ipswich Hospital Maternity Unit has three maternity wards
- Brook Ward
- Orwell Ward
- Deben Ward
