What to expect at your child's appointment/ admission: If possible, please avoid bringing your child’s pushchair into the department as there is limited space. We understand that you may need to bring your child in their pushchair, if they have mobility problems, such as cerebral palsy or if you have travelled to the hospital by bus. Also, please avoid bringing other children or more than one other adult with you due to limited space.

If English is not your first language and you think you may find it difficult to understand the doctor, or it will be difficult for you to give the doctor information about your child’s problem, please try to bring someone with you to interpret. If this is not possible, please could you inform us before your child’s appointment so a telephone interpreter can be booked.

Please report to the reception desk in PIU. Please tell us if there has been a change in your child’s address, contact telephone number, GP (family doctor) or the school they attend. You will then be asked to sit in a waiting area. Your child may be called up to be weighed and their height measured.

When and where to get results: You will normally get your child's results at their follow-up appointment. All results are sent to your child's doctor - who has requested the test or investigation - who may contact you by letter (or sometimes by phone) with your child’s results.

If you have not heard anything within the expected time, and your child’s investigations have been requested by a hospital consultant, you can leave a message with the consultant's secretary. If you ring the main hospital Switchboard on 01473 712233 they can put you through to your child's consultant’s secretary. Please ensure you have your child’s consultants name to hand.
