Overview: Neurophysiology provides a diagnostic service to patients of all ages. Tests are carried out to investigate the function of the brain and nervous system and to diagnose and monitor neurological disorders.
Specialities and procedures undertaken: Procedures undertaken include EEG (Electroencephalogram), Evoked Responses, NCS (Nerve Conduction Studies), EMG (Electromyography) and Thermal Thresholds. Other, more specialist, investigations may be available on request.
What to expect at your appointment: You will normally be seen by a clinical physiologist who will undertake your study. For specialist tests you may be seen by a consultant. Most studies will take 45 minutes to one hour.
When and where to get results of any tests: The results will be reviewed by a consultant neurophysiologist and a report sent back to your referring doctor.
Additional information:
The staff comprise of a consultant and clinical physiologists. All staff are GMC or RCCP registered. We are actively involved in teaching and training and have work based and national assessors within the department.
