Hydrotherapy Pool

The Ipswich Hospital hydrotherapy pool is located in its own self-contained room within the Physiotherapy Outpatients Department, accessed via Entrance 5 of the hospital.

To book the Ipswich Hospital hydrotherapy pool, please call 01473 703318.

Pool dimensions

  • Deep end: 1.2m (4ft).
  • Shallow end: 0.85m (2.8ft).
  • 5.8m (19ft) long and 2.9m (9.5ft) wide.
  • The pool can accommodate four people.

Facilities
We have six curtained cubicles for patients to change in and a small storage area where patients can leave their bag whilst in the pool. We do not routinely supply patients with drinks after they have been in the pool but there are facilities to make drinks, if required.

Entering the pool
There are five steps up into the pool and six steps down. All steps have a hand rail on one side. Once in the pool there are three steps down into the deep end.

Hoist
Patients can be hoisted from a chair and lowered into the pool - the patient must be able to transfer independently from chair to chair. The maximum weight for the hoist is 200kg (31 stone).

Equipment
The pool has a back rest which can be lowered into the water for patients who need to be seated in the pool. We have an array of other equipment including arm bands, rings and flippers.
