Our reception team will welcome you to the department. A member of the nursing team will call you through to be seen by the consultant providing your surgical care. You may be offered a gown to wear for the procedure, depending on the lesion site. You will have the procedure explained to you and your consent to proceed will be checked at this point. The procedure normally takes between 30 and 60 minutes, and a local anaesthetic will be injected into the surrounding skin to numb the area. The wound will normally be closed by sutures (small stitches) and you will be given advice about how to care for your wound and whether you need to see the practice nurse at your GP surgery or return to our department dressing clinic for your follow-up appointment.
